RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Amnon Lipkin-Shahak has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 68; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Amnon Lipkin-Shahak was the loving and devoted husband of Tali Lipkin-Shahakand; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Amnon Lipkin-Shahak was the much-adored father of five children to whom he imparted many ofthe fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Trained as a paratrooper, the Honorable Amnon Lipkin-Shahak directed Israeli forces in many military encounters, participated in several daring commando raids and received Israel's Medal of Courage twice; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Amnon Lipkin-Shahak served as Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces from 1995-1998, entered the Knesset in 1999, was appointed Minister of Tourism, and then in 2011 was appointed Transport Minister; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Amnon Lipkin-Shahak was involved in peace negotiations for Israel with Palestine and Syria; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication ofthe Honorable Amnon Lipkin-Shahak serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Amnon Lipkin-Shahak to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Amnon Lipkin-Shahak imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members ofthe Chicago City Council, assembled this seventeenth day of January, 2013, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Amnon Lipkin-Shahak for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family: and
