MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR CLARA "DR. SUPREME EMPRESS LEAH" KIRK
WHEREAS; God in His infinite wisdom, has called Mrs. Clara Kirk, an exceptional religious, civic and active member of the community, and
WHEREAS, this august body has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Stephanie D. Coleman, Alderman of the 16th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Kirk worked for the Chicago Public1 School system and moved to the Eriglewood community in 1974, and
WHEREAS; Mrs. Kirk started caring for women and children in the Chicago area before she opened her shelter, she provided food and shelter in her family home, and
WHEREAS, Clara's House shelter opened in 1987 on the corner of 62nd arid Paulina, where women and children could eat, sleep and receive assistance and resources while working to get back on their feet; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Kirk founded numerous organizations: Clara's House, Clara's Place, Clara's Academic Center as well as West Englewood United Organization; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Kirk was a dedicated member of the Coptic Faith where she has been a member for over 50years and was one of the original 12 (twelve) empress; and
WHEREAS,, Mrs. Kirk left the, True Temple of Solomon to. accompany her husband, the late Prophet Joshua Bell to open their own church, Universal Temple of Christ and training School located at 5539 South Damen; and
WHEREASvMrs. Kirk "Dr. Supreme Empress Leah" was not only'a blessing in her community, but was a teacher, healer, minister and leader within the Coptic faith; and
WHEREAS, Mrs: Kirk leaves behind three sons, two daughters, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many more people she loved;
BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered this 17th day of June, 2020, do hereby express our deepest condolences to her family;
