MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR HONORABLE JOHN N. HOURIHANE
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that the members of this Chamber learned of the death of the Honorable John N. Hourihane on September 10, 2017 at the age of 78; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Born on August 29, 1939, John was the devoted husband of Sylvia, nee Grzesik for 52 years; beloved father of John Jr. (Leigh), Jim (Ursula) Hourihane and Ellen (Jonathan) Meadows; cherished grandfather of Leyton, Katherine, Gabriel, Alicia and Julia; dear brother of Michael (Jan) and Daniel (Linda); fond brother in law of Patricia (Rich) Rasinski, Alice (Ray) Brosius and Emil (Joan) Grzesik; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews; and treasured friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. John leaves a legacy of faith, dignity and love and
WHEREAS, John was a graduate of St. George High School, DePaul University and Chicago-Kent College of Law. He served as a Circuit Court Judge and Justice on the Illinois Appellate Court for twenty years and
WHEREAS, John touched the lives of all who knew him through his kindness, generosity and vivacious spirit. He will be deeply missed, but the memory of his character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved him; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this 11th day of October, 2017, do hereby extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the Honorable John N. Hourihane; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution are presented to the family of Honorable John N. Hourihane as a sign of our honor, gratitude, and respect.
