Resolution
Whereas, in celebration of the first performance of Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blindcreated by Greg Allen, written and performed by The Neo-Futurists which took place on Friday, December 2,1988 and has since run continuously for 25 years, making it the longest-running original show in Chicago theater history; and
Whereas, over the course of those 25 years The Neo-Futurists have generated more than 8,500 World Premiere short plays, performed over 3,600 performances creating
more than 500,000 inimitable audience experiences; and
Whereas, the 64 wildly prolific artists representing the past and present Ensemble of The Neo-Futurists have also created more than 50 World Premiere full-length works and developed a robust education curriculum teaching Neo-Futurism to thousands of students; and
Whereas, Neo-Futurism as a performance aesthetic has spread across the country, and globe, with invitations to perform at theaters, schools and festivals - and established permanent branch companies operating in New York City and San Francisco; and
Whereas, The Neo-Futurists are committed to making the arts accessible to everyone by producing more than 250 annual events in their Andersonville Theater at affordable prices;
Whereas, The Neo-Futurists have contributed to the Andersonville arts community for
25 years; "
Whereas, the Honorable Harry Osterman has made us aware of this recognition;
Be It Resolved, that we The Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this day of November 26, 2013, do hereby honor The Neo-Futurists for their ongoing contributions to making the arts part of daily life in Chicago for 25 years and counting.
Be it Further Resolved, that a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared/ presented to The Neo-Futurists.
