RESOLUTION



WHEREAS, On July 16, 2015, an Armed Forces Recruitment Center and the Navy Operational Support Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee were attacked, killing five members ofthe Armed Services; and

WHEREAS, Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Sullivan, of Massachusetts, served his country with honor and distinction and was twice awarded the Purple Heart; and

WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant David Wyatt, of North Carolina, served his country with honor and distinction, including two deployments to Iraq; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Carson Holmquist, of Wisconsin, served his country with honor and distinction, including two deployments to Afghanistan; and

WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Squire K. Wells, of Georgia, served his. country with honor and distinction, having recently completed basic training; and

WHEREAS, Petty Officer Second Class Randall Smith, of Ohio, served his country with honor and distinction, and had recently re-enlisted in the Navy: and

WHEREAS, The hard work and sacrifice and dedication of Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Sullivan, Staff Sergeant David Wyatt, Sergeant Carson Holmquist, Lance Corporal Squire K Wells, and Petty Officer Second Class Randall Smith serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, To their families, these soldiers and sailors will always impart a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; and
WHEREAS, Chattanooga police officer Sergeant Dennis Pcdigo, Jr. and Marine Sergeant DeMontc Cheelcy were wounded during the attack; and

WHEREAS, the swift and courageous response by law enforcement officers and first respondcrs prevented additional loss of life; NOW THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-ninth day of July, 2015, do hereby commemorate the lives and service of Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Sullivan, Staff Sergeant David Wyatt, Sergeant Carson Holmquist, Lance Corporal Squire K. Wells, and Petty Officer Second Class Randall Smith, and wish a speedy recovery for Chattanooga police officer ...
