CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO CROSSING GUARD, HELEN SHIRLEY, ON RETIREMENT FROM THE CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, On August 5, 2016 Crossing Guard, Helen Shirley, retired from the Chicago Police Department following twenty-four years of dedicated public service; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this occasion by the Honorable Derrick Curtis, Alderman of the 18th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Crossing Guard, Helen Shirley, Star #1345 began her illustrious career with the Chicago Police Department on June 15, 1992 and retired as a valued member of the 6th District. Her presence will be sorely missed; and
WHEREAS, The Crossing Guards have the very essential job of ensuring the safety of students traveling to and from school. Not only do they stand out in the rain, sleet and snow, these crossing guards have an important role in protecting the lives of our children; and
WHEREAS, Helen Shirley devoted twenty-four years of her life in public service to the people she served in the 18lh Ward and 6th Police District; and
WHEREAS, The leaders of this great City of Chicago are cognizant of the great debt owed our public servants, and extend our sincerest gratitude to the long and prolific career of Crossing Guard, Helen Shirley; now, therefore
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this first day of November, 2016, do hereby express our gratitude for twenty-four years of work in service to the people of the City of Chicago, and express our heartiest wishes on a pleasant retirement to Helen Shirley; and
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Helen Shirley and her family.
