RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THE GREATER LOVE CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST ON ITS 50™ ANNIVERSARY
WHEREAS, The Greater Love Church of God in Christ is celebrating its 50 anniversary; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been informed of this milestone by the Honorable Michael Scott, Jr., Alderman of the 24th Ward; and
WHEREAS, The Greater Love Church of God in Christ held its first service on Sunday, January 1, 1967, in the Houston's basement on 3120 West Arthington Street in Lawndale under the leadership of Pastor Ollie Lee Peel; and
WHEREAS, Membership in the The Greater Love Church of God in Christ grew so quickly that in March 1967 it moved to 1125 South Kedzie Avenue; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Ollie Peal was revered for his devotion to the gospel, giving spirit and love of family and friends. Pastor Peal had the support of his missionary wife Lucille C. Peal. He remained the leader of The Greater Love Church of God in Christ until his passing on September 21, 2006; and
WHEREAS, He was replaced by his son, Pastor Rex Alexander Peal. Pastor Peal began serving The Greater Love Church of God in Christ as Minister of Music at the age of 13. He has been a band director and music director of various musical groups and taught music at Loyola University and Valparaiso University. Pastor Peel has been honored to speak at various conventions of the clergy. He is married to First Lady Melissa D. Peel. They have two lovely children, Aria and Joshua; and
WHEREAS, The Greater Love Church of God in Christ is currently located at 1612 South Hamlin;
and
WHEREAS, The Church is the location of many life events and the source of spiritual strength to its members; and
WHEREAS, The Greater Love Church of God in Christ is celebrating its 50th Anniversary Year of Jubilee with a gala on July 21, 2017; now, therefore,
