RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, William J. Bingham has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-nine; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, William J. Bingham was the beloved husband of Kate; and
WHEREAS, William J. Bingham was the proud father of Timothy, Dennis, Mary Eileen, Kathleen, Patrick, William F. and Michael, the cherished grandfather of nineteen and the dear great-grandfather of six to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, A member of the "Greatest Generation" who fought valiantly for freedom in World War II Europe, William J. Bingham was a proud veteran of the United States Army Air Force; and
WHEREAS, In spite of injuries, William J. Bingham courageously evaded capture by Axis forces in occupied Italy after his plane's engine exploded and he was forced to parachute into hostile territory; and
WHEREAS, William J. Bingham spent forty years in service to the residents of the city in the Chicago Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, As a valiant firefighter, William J. Bingham routinely put his life on the line in the exercise of his duties; and
WHEREAS, On December 1, 1958, William J. Bingham was the Chicago Fire Department dispatcher who sent emergency response personnel to confront the tragic fire at Our Lady of the Angels Grammar School; and
WHEREAS, A beloved, long-time youth baseball and football coach, William J. Bingham was a wise and caring mentor to countless young people on Chicago's South Side; and
WHEREAS, William J. Bingham touched the lives of many with his warmth and generosity; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of William J. Bingham serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared William J. Bingham to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will neve...
