RESOLUTION HONORING CHICAGO HOPE ACADEMY
WHEREAS, Chicago Hope Academy, celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, and begins celebration of this milestone by kicking off the pre-Broadway musical Amazing Grace at the Bank of America Theater in Chicago on November 2, 2014; and
WHEREAS, this esteemed body has been informed of this joyous occasion by the Honorable Bob Fioretti, Alderman ofthe 2nd Ward; and
WHEREAS, in 2004, a group of faith-minded businessmen purchased the then-vacant St. Callistus School and parish from the Archdiocese of Chicago, and with the cooperation and dedication of volunteers, future students, and contactors, renovation began; and
WHEREAS, the efforts of the community and volunteers were tremendous, and included 200 volunteers from Aurora Christian High School who spent a week during Spring Break executing the demolition and reconstruction plan; and
WHEREAS, in August 29, 2005, Chicago Hope Academy welcomed a diverse and dynamic freshman and sophomore class, and has been always dedicated to admitting a student body of many different socio economic statuses and ethic identities; and
WHEREAS, only two years after opening, Chicago Hope Academy developed plans for a new wing in 2006 with the momentum of a strong school community, and continued to expand athletic facilities, including a basketball court used by the NBA and President Barack Obama; and
WHEREAS, Chicago Hope Academy is a model institution for a comprehensive education with a focus on overall enrichment of mind, body, and spirit, including a program of international volunteer activities, instilling in Chicago's young students a sense of civic duty; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and members ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago, gathered here this sixth day of October 2014, do hereby extend our warmest congratulations to Chicago Hope Academy on their tenth anniversary.
