RESOLUTION HONORING THE 60™ ANNIVERSARY OF FIRST PROGRESSIVE
CHURCH OF CHRIST
 
 
 
WHEREAS, In February of 1953 the First Progressive Church of Christ was founded;
WHEREAS, In February of 1954 the Pastor and Officers of the First Progressive Church of Christ purchased the property at 7257-59 South Wabash and 60 East 73rd Street, which serves as the Sanctuary and Parsonage of the church to this day;
WHEREAS, The church grew over the years adding auxiliaries and departments including the Men's Workshop, Junior Choir, Children's Bible Hour, Purity Class and Cub and Boy Scout troops;
WHEREAS, The church outgrew its initial sanctuary in 1959 and expanded with a fifty thousand dollar addition that the church completed in 1967 through its successful building program;
WHEREAS, The church has had four Pastors to lead the congregation including Bishop J.M. Haywood, Reverend Bennett Wolfe, Reverend Fred Dade and the current pastor Reverend Derrius M. Colvin Sr;
WHEREAS, Reverend Charles Snipes, Deacon Issac May, Deacon Reynold Dillon, Deacon W.I. Irving, Reverend John F. Sanders played important roles in leading the church throughout the years as the church grew and transitioned between leaders;
WHEREAS, On February 22nd and 24th the First Progressive Church of Christ will celebrate its 60th Anniversary of preaching and teaching the Word of Life and working in the Park Manor community and City of Chicago.
BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that on the 17nd day of February 2013, the Mayor and the City Council of Chicago do hereby congratulate membership of The First Progressive Church of Christ on its 60th Anniversary.
