RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Dale Bumpers has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 90; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed. of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Dale Bumpers was a former Arkansas Governor and United States Senator who enjoyed a long and highly distinguished career in public service; and
WHEREAS, The son of a state legislator, the Honorable Dale Bumpers was born in Charleston, Arkansas, and worked as a small town attorney; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Dale Bumpers earned the nickname "giant killer" because of his success in defeating a series of well-established politicians during primary and general election battles; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Dale Bumpers served from 1971 to 1975 as the 38th Governor of Arkansas and was elected to the United States Senate four times between 1975 and 1999; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Dale Bumpers was known throughout his tenure in the Senate for his respect for the U.S. Constitution and opposition to constitutional amendments; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Dale Bumpers served from 1987 to 1995 as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Dale Bumpers serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Dale Bumpers was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his loving wife, Betty, and his three children, Brent, Bill and Brooke, the Honorable Dale Bumpers imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of January, 2016, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Dale Bumpers for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
