MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR WILLIAM M. STAPKA
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that the members of this Chamber learned of the death of William M. Stapka on March 10, 2018 at the age of 87; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Born on December 16, 1930, William was the beloved husband of the late Marcella (nee Gienko); loving father of Susan (Nick) Slywczuk, Andrew Stapka and Tom (Dee) Stapka; dearest grandfather of Jennifer Stapka, Kenneth Stapka, Randy Stapka, Nicole Ringfelt and Rebecca Slywczuk; dear brother of Edward (Helen) Sztapka, John (Josephine) Sztapka, Sophia (late Roger) Himmel, Eugene (Germaine) Sztapka, late Walter (late Irene) Sztapka, late Jadwiga (late Boleslaw) Kochanowski, late Janina Sztapka and the late Stefan (Carol) Sztapka; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews and treasured friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. William leaves a legacy of faith, dignity and love and
WHEREAS, William, a devoted family man, was a legend in the Polish-American and Democratic Political communities of Chicago. In 1957 he joined the 41st Democratic Party. William was Secretary Treasurer to the late Congressman/Alderman Roman Pucinski and to Justice Aurelia Pucinski later joining the 45th Ward Democratic organization. He was a retired Local 399 Assistant Chief Operating Engineer for the City of Chicago at CHare Airport for thirty three years. In addition to his love for politics, William was also passionate about sports and spent most of his life inspiring athletes to love the sport of soccer by coaching and refereeing. William will be deeply missed but the memory of his character, intelligence, and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved him; now, therefore
