MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
 
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned ofthe death of John W. Spellman, on October 7, 2014, at the age of eighty-seven; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
 
WHEREAS, Born on July 24,1927, John was the devoted son of the late Michael and Anne, nee Gilmore; beloved brother of Colette (the late Robert) Bodenbender, Michael (Brother Martin, FSC), the late Marguerite (the late Louis) DeRango and the late William (Jayne); favorite uncle and great uncle of many nieces and nephews; fond cousin of many in Ireland and in the United States of America; and friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. John leaves a legacy of faith, compassion, dignity and love; and
 
WHEREAS, John, who touched the lives of all who knew him through his kindness, generosity, heart and spirit, was active and vital in his community, as a proud graduate of St. Mel High School and a devoted supporter ofthe Christian Brothers ofthe Midwest; and
 
WHEREAS, John will be deeply missed, but the memory of his character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved him; now, therefore,
 
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this fifth day of November, 2014, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of John W. Spellman and extend to his family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
 
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John W. Spellman.
