RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand, the world's longest-reigning monarch, has gone to his eternal reward at the age of 88; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej was born on December 5, 1927 in Cambridge, Massachusetts where his father, Prince Mahidol Adulyadej, was studying at Harvard University; and
WHEREAS, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej returned with his family to Thailand and was educated in Switzerland; and
WHEREAS, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej ascended to the throne on June 9, 1946 upon the death of his brother; and
WHEREAS, A tireless champion of his country's development, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej was a popular monarch who reigned for more than 70 years; and
WHEREAS, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej led his nation during times of political upheaval and in 1992 helped to bring democracy to Thailand; and
WHEREAS, "The people's king," His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej was a constitutional ruler and a unifying influence in his country; and
WHEREAS, The dedicated leadership and vision of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his wife, Queen Sirikit, and his four children, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this first day of November, 2016, do hereby commemorate His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
