RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Ruth Edelman has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-four; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Aldermen Edward M. Burke and Brendan Reilly; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Edelman was the loving wife of the late Daniel J. Edelman, the founder of the world's largest public relations firm; and
WHEREAS, Born Ruth Rozumoff, Ruth Edelman was raised in Kenosha, Wisconsin and attended the University of Wisconsin before moving to Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Edelman encouraged her husband to start the Chicago-based public relations company while they were still dating and helped to establish its first office in the Merchandise Mart; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Edelman was her husband's trusted advisor and the revered matriarch of the firm; and
WHEREAS, An influential, behind-the-scenes force, Ruth Edelman was intimately involved in company decisions, both big and small, and edited Edelman's weekly newsletter; and
WHEREAS, A woman of dignity, grace and charm, Ruth Edelman was a supreme networker who introduced her husband to countless corporate powerhouses and potential clients; and
WHEREAS, Over the decades, Ruth Edelman entertained notables from Orville Redenbacher to Colonel Sanders at the couple's Astor Street home on the Gold Coast; and
WHEREAS, Following the passing of her husband, Ruth Edelman was named Deputy Chairwoman of the firm; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Edelman was greatly involved in philanthropic causes and supported mental health organizations and the arts; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Ruth Edelman serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Edelman will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To her two sons, Richard and John, her daughter, Renee, her three adoring granddaughters, and her sister, Rosalie Aronin, Ruth Edelman imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
