RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Yitzhak Navon has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 94; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honor
able Yitzhak Navon served as the fifth President of the State of Israel; and
WHEREAS, A native of Jerusalem, the Honorable Yitzhak Navon was a descendant of a Sephardi family of rabbis; and
WHEREAS, In 1951 the Honorable Yitzhak Navon became a top aide to Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, the founding father of Israel; and
WHEREAS, A moderate voice and embracing figure, the Honorable Yitzhak Navon served as President from 1978 until 1983; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Yitzhak Navon was considered a leading member of the generation that "built our national home with their own hands"; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Yitzhak Navon declined to run for a second term, but in 1984 returned to politics and was elected to the Knesset where he served as Minister of Education and Culture; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Yitzhak Navon later wrote two musicals based on Sephardic folklore and a book entitled The Six Days and the Seven Gates; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Yitzhak Navon serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Yitzhak Navon to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Yitzhak Navon was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Yitzhak Navon imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
