WHEREAS, Leo Raymond Newcombe has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 93; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago. City Council has been informed of his^passing by Alderman Ed ward^M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Winnetka, Leo Raymond Newcombe was a prominent newspaper executive and the loving husband ofIthe late Ann, nee Lombard; and

WHEREAS, Leo Raymond Newcombfe was the much-adored father of Dr. Raymond, Richard, Robert, Jerome, Mary Ann> John, Margaret Mfiry and the late Douglas, and the much-adored grandfather of seventeen:.and the great-grandfather of -three to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, A warm, genial and .outgoing gentleman, Leo Raymond Newcombe was the dear brother of Lila, the late Marian, Howard^Francis and Jane; and

WHEREAS, Born in Faribault, Minnesota, Leo Raymond Newcombe graduated from the University of Minnesota; and

WHEREAS, Leo Raymond; Newcombe served his country during World War II as a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy; and

WHEREAS, Leo Raymond Newcombe earned a master's degree in business administratiqn-,from the University of Michigan in 1947 and he married his wife the.following year in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, In ,1952 the couple moved to -Winnetka where they raised eight children and were devout members of Saints Faith, Hope c&Charity Parish; and

WHEREAS, Leo Raymond Newcombe enjoyed a long and highly successful career in^the.tnewspaper business where he served "as Vice President and General,/Manager of the Chicago Sun Times and Daily News; and

WHEREAS, The hard, work, sacrifice and dedication of Leo Raymond Newcombe serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Leo Raymond Newcombe to his family .members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
