RESOLUTION



WHEREAS, Hector J. Rodriguez has retired as a Commander in the Chicago Police Department following thirty-five years of distinguished public service; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Hector J. Rodriguez joined the Chicago Police Department on January 3,1977, and enjoyed a distinguished career during which he made many lasting contributions to the department; and

WHEREAS, Hector J. Rodriguez was recognized with the Superintendent's Award of Merit for helping to establish a specialized program for police officers which provides hands-on training to make them more familiar with operating police vehicles during police chases and other emergency response situations; and

WHEREAS, During the early 1990s, Hector J. Rodriguez played an instrumental role in the selection of the Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier as the more suitable venue for graduations from the police academy, following years of ceremonies held in high school auditoriums; and

WHEREAS, A resident of the Brighton Park community, Hector J. Rodriguez is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and a graduate of the Chicago Kent College of Law; and

WHEREAS, Hector J. Rodriguez retired on July 16, 2012, as the Commander of the 25th District; and

WHEREAS, Hector J. Rodriguez previously served in other high-profile assignments as the Commander of the Management and Labor Affairs Unit, as Commander of Area 4 Detectives and in the Vice Control Section; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious tenure, Hector J. Rodriguez distinguished himself as an able leader who upheld the finest and most noble traditions of the Chicago Police Department; and

WHEREAS, Hector J. Rodriguez devoted his career in service to the people of the City and in doing so has personally ensured that the City of Chicago is the healthy and vibrant community it is today; now, therefore
