WHEREAS, On Thursday, February 13, 2014, the Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom called Ollie Mae Evans Allen to her eternal journey; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Lona Lane, Alderman of the 18th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Ollie Mae Evans Allen was born on January 4, 1937, in Tyronza, Arkansas, she was the first of six children born to the union of Rev. Thomas Evans, Sr. and Ruthie Evans; and
WHEREAS, She confessed a hope in Jesus Christ at an early age at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Clearlake, Arkansas. She graduated from Harrison High School in 1956, Blytheville, Arkansas. She was a member of the Honor Society, The Harrison High Choral Club and won the Betty Crocker Award (Homemaking) in her senior year. Ollie's passion was Sunday school and she also served as a Secretary at West End Missionary Baptist Church for many years. She sang in the Junior Choir at West End Baptist Church under the direction of Charles Payne; and
WHEREAS, Ollie was married to Minor Jones Allen in 1957 and to that union three children were born. She was a member of Greater Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Ollie James and also attended Sunday School faithfully at Sion Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Dr. Elder Dermis Allen; and
WHEREAS, She retired from Montgomery Ward after 35 years of service as Customer Service Supervisor. She served as the Board Secretary for the Wrightwood Association and served as secretary for several Senior Citizen organizations: The Ford City Mall Walkers, and was corresponding secretary of the Chicago Chapter of the Harrisonites Club Inc.; and
WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Thomas Evans, Sr. and Ruthie Evans; one brother, Mark Stanley Evans; and leaves behind to cherish her precious memories to her husband, Minor Jones Allen; two sons, Minor Jr. and Mark Stanley Allen; one daughter, Michele Allen Marsh (Shawn); two grand...
