RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Edward J. "Eddie" Zolna, Sr., has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 85; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A native of Chicago's Southwest Side, Edward J. "Eddie" Zolna, Sr., was a legendary amateur softball player and the loving husband for 62 years of Lorraine, nee Zaitz; and
WHEREAS, Edward J. "Eddie" Zolna, Sr., was the much-adored father of Eddie Jr., Judy, Jayne and Jeanne, the grandfather of seven and the great-grandfather of two to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Raised at 51st and Washtenaw in the Gage Park community where his parents ran Zolna's tavern, Edward J. "Eddie" Zolna, Sr., was the son of the late John and Johanna and the dear brother of Mary and the late Anthony, John and Ann; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, Edward J. "Eddie" Zolna, Sr., served for a decade as a Chicago Police Officer and Detective before establishing the Zolna Insurance Agency; and
WHEREAS, Edward J. "Eddie" Zolna, Sr., will most be remembered for his standout athletic ability as an amateur softball player that won him fame both in Chicago and across the nation; and
WHEREAS, Along with his team, the Bobcats, Edward J. "Eddie" Zolna, Sr., won twelve national championships and he pitched in more than 5,000 games over six decades; and
WHEREAS, Edward J. "Eddie" Zolna, Sr., was a member of the National A.S.A. Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, the Chicago 16-inch Softball Hall of Fame and the Illinois A.S.A. Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Edward J. "Eddie" Zolna, Sr., serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Edward J. "Eddie" Zolna to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
