RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Woodrow "Woodie" Lee has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 89; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Woodrow "Woodie" Lee was a Chinatown civic and business leader whose vision and persistence helped to shape the community; and
WHEREAS, Woodrow "Woodie" Lee was a member of a generation that made Chinatown into a center for local and global commerce; and
WHEREAS, Born to Chinese immigrants, Woodrow "Woodie" Lee was one of fifteen children and was raised in Chinatown; and
WHEREAS, A Past President of the Chinese American Civic Council, Woodrow "Woodie" Lee pushed for the construction of a new library, the creation of Ping Tom Memorial Park and the building of the Leonard M. Louie Fieldhouse; and
WHEREAS, Known for his likeable and charming personality, Woodrow "Woodie" Lee worked at or helped to manage three businesses on Wentworth Avenue, including China Restaurant, Far East Oven and Lucky Coffee Shop; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Woodrow "Woodie" Lee serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Woodrow "Woodie" Lee to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Woodrow "Woodie" Lee imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-eighth day of June, 2017, do hereby commemorate Woodrow "Woodie" Lee for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
