RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, John D. McDonough has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-eight; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke;, and
WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, John D. McDonough was the loving and devoted husband for fifty years of the late Eleanor; and
WHEREAS, John D. McDonough was the much-adored father of Mary Lou, Kathi and John F., the beloved grandfather of eight and the great grandfather of ten to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities which he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The youngest of ten children, John D. McDonough was raised by immigrant Irish parents on the City's South Side; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his life, John D. McDonough was intensely proud of his heritage and always displayed a quick and effervescent Irish wit; and
WHEREAS, Following his graduation from high school, John D. McDonough joined the Illinois State Police force; and
WHEREAS, John D. McDonough settled with his family in the Edison Park community on the Northwest Side and joined the Santa Fe Railroad where he worked for two decades before retiring in 1977; and
WHEREAS, John D. McDonough enjoyed traveling and was known for his sociable nature; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared John D. McDonough to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, dedication and sacrifice of John D. McDonough serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, John D. McDonough will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and colleagues; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, John D. McDonough imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
