MEMORIAL RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, God in His Infinite Wisdom has called Catherine A. Sales, most beloved citizen to her eternal reward, Thursday, August 29, 2013; and

WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Carrie Austin, Alderman of the 34th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Born on October 6, 1930 in Lumberton, North Carolina, Catherine was the loving child of Maddie Faison and Doc Rozier. A devoted and beloved wife of the late Graham K. Sales, whom were married for over 40 years, and loving mother of two children, Leroy Danny and Kathy Roshell who were her life; and

WHEREAS, Catherine attended Lumberton High School and relocated to Chicago in 1946. She was an entrepreneur establishing several successful businesses that still thrive today, while working for Dana Corporation in Chicago for over 40 years, where she retired from in 1995. She was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord and used her faith to guide her as she instilled the value of hard work and education in her children; and

WHEREAS, Catherine was deeply committed to her family, where at times served as surrogate mother to her grandson, Jesse as well as many of her nieces and nephews. She was a constant source of love and support to her brothers and sisters; and

WHEREAS, Catherine leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Leroy Danny and Kathy Roshell; her sister, Rosa Hamlin, Shirley Mclver, and Edna Rose Shelby; her brothers Giles and Author Rozier. She was preceded in death by her husband and nine brothers and sisters. Survivors also include: devoted sister in law, Imogene Sales Boles, her dear nephews James Rushing, Eugene Powell, and Paul Wilson, her beloved nieces Michelle Rushing, Delia Quinn, Emma Ruth Macklin, and Cheryl Sales; a host of nieces and nephews; her loyal and loving care provider Elizabeth, Catherine leaves a legacy of faith, compassion, dignity and love; and
