MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR ARTHUR LEE BARNES JR.

WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that the members of this Chamber learned of the departure of Mr. Arthur Lee Barnes Jr. on July 10, 2016; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Emma Mitts, Alderman of the 37th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Arthur was born on April 26, 1946, in Greenwood, Mississippi, to the union of the late Charles and Eunice Henderson; and

WHEREAS, He accepted Christ as an early age, attending Greater Open Door Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Richard Nelson; and

WHEREAS, Arthur graduated from Carter H. Harrison Technical High School in the South Lawndale neighborhood; he went on to attend Washburne Trade School in Chicago, Illinois, where he was one of first African Americans to become a licensed electrician, paving the way to others to enter the field; and

WHEREAS, Arthur took pride in his career, working at Unified Electric where he was one of the Contractors that helped to build the Sears Tower; and

WHEREAS, In his spare time, Arthur enjoyed singing, football, listening to jazz, and spending time with his family; and

WHEREAS, Arthur leaves to cherish his memory Eleanor Scott; his children, Jerrie, Jerry, Tina (Lewis), and Darryl; sisters, Lenetta (Byron), Sheila (Luther), Gretta (George), and Carolyn; brothers, Kenneth, Ronald (Juliet), Michael, and the late Lawrence; an aunt, Dorothy; grandchildren, great­grandchildren,-and a host of family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Arthur touched the lives of all who knew him through his love and spirit. He will be deeply missed, but the memory of his character will live on in those who knew and loved him; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this 5* day of October, 2016, do hereby extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. Arthur Lee Barnes Jr.; and
