RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Seymour H. Persky has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 92; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Seymour H. Persky was a prominent Chicago real estate developer and preservationist; and
WHEREAS, The son of Russian immigrants, Seymour H. Persky was raised on the West Side and later in the Lawndale community; and
WHEREAS, Seymour H. Persky served in the United States Army Air Forces as an engine mechanic during World War II; and
WHEREAS, Seymour H. Persky graduated from Roosevelt University and DePaul University College of Law; and
WHEREAS, Seymour H. Persky worked as a criminal defense attorney before embarking on a career in real estate; and
WHEREAS, As a real estate investor and developer, Seymour H. Persky renovated apartment buildings in Lincoln Park and Evanston; and
WHEREAS, Seymour H. Persky was responsible for relocating the Society of Architectural Historians from Philadelphia to what is now known as the Charnley-Persky House located at 1365 North Astor Street on Chicago's Gold Coast; and
WHEREAS, As Chairman of the Union League's art committee, Seymour H. Persky played an instrumental role in erecting a replica of a Parisian Metro station on Michigan Avenue at Van Buren Street; and
WHEREAS, Seymour H. Persky also served as a member of the Commission on Chicago Landmarks and donated a bust of renowned Chicago novelist Saul Bellow to the Harold Washington Library Center; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Seymour H. Persky serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Seymour H. Persky was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his companion, Bonnie Gilman, his daughter, Abby, and his two grandchildren, Seymour H. Persky imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, theref...
