MEMORIAL RESOLUTION CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF ESTHER REYES
WHEREAS, Esther Reyes, mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and beloved member of the 22nd Ward community, passed away on February 8, 2023 at 95; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of Ether's passing by the Honorable Michael D. Rodriguez, Alderman of the 22nd Ward; and
WHEREAS, Esther was born in 1928 in Yauco, Puerto Rico, before moving to the Southwest Side of Chicago in 1951, where she remained for the rest of her life - whether in Little Village or Garfield Ridge; and
WHEREAS, Known as the "perfect homemaker", nothing was more important to Esther than her family, whether simply spending time with her children, their children, and their children's children, or cooking them her famous rice and beans; and
WHEREAS, When not spending time with her family, Esther could be found in her garden, which brought her - and those around her - much joy; and
WHEREAS, Esther was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Luis Reyes, and her beloved children Luis Reyes, Jr. and Alicia (Jorge) Tellez; Esther is survived by her beloved children, Matilde Reyes, Lydia Esther (Jorge) Lomeli, Aida Rokita, Elbin (Frances) Reyes, and Annette Reyes, and many adored grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, A kind and loving nurturer, Esther will be missed by all who knew her; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this fifteenth day of March, 2023, would like to recognize and celebrate the life of Esther Reyes; and
