SALUTE TO THE LORETTO ACADEMY CLASS OF 1968
WHEREAS, The Loretto Academy Class of 1968 will hold its first class reunion, a two-day celebration, on May 25 & 26, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Loretto Academy, an all-girls Catholic high school, located in this city at 65Ih Street and Blackstone Avenue, was a long-standing education institution established in 1906 and closed in 1972: and
WHEREAS, Through their dedication and sacrifice, the Sisters of the Immaculate Blessed Virgin Mary provided these Loretto students with a strong moral compass and inspired them to achieve academic acumen through an outstanding education; and
WHEREAS, With a full appreciation of the merits of a sound education, the Graduating Class of 1968 has achieved great accomplishments in a variety of challenging and rewarding professions, including medicine, law, education, performing arts, journalism, finance, system analysis, corporate management and entrepreneurs in many other fields; and
WHEREAS, The Class of 1968 provides valuable role models for future generations including doctors, teachers, principals, professors, and attorneys as well as professional ballerinas, recognized poets, playwrights, singers, even a White House correspondent; and
WHEREAS, The women of the Class of 1968 of Loretto Academy always put the well-being of others before their own in a true example of Christian love, dedication and faithfulness to God, family, profession, and their community. Their bond has created an environment that touches the deepest emotions and builds bridges among people of all ages, abilities, races, religions, and ethnicities; and
WHEREAS. The Honorable Willie B. Cochran, Alderman ofthe 20th Ward that was home to Loretto Academy where its Graduating Class of 1968 was educated, has informed this august body of their significant 45-year milestone; now therefore
