RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, On October 18, 1013, the Interfaith Airport Chapels of Chicago will honor Joseph W. O'Connor, Jr., with the 2013 Executive Service O'Hare Wings of Vision Award; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The O'Hare Wings of Vision Award recognizes an individual who "has made a significant contribution to the O'Hare Airport community, exemplified in years of sincere dedication and friendly willingness to be of service to all at the airport"; and
WHEREAS, Joseph W. O'Connor, Jr., has embodied the principles celebrated by the O'Hare Wings of Vision Award as a member of the Chicago Department of Aviation for more than three decades; and
WHEREAS, Joseph W. O'Connor, Jr., served our country proudly as a member of the United States Marine Corps from 1976 to 1979; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of the Chicago Police Academy and Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command, Joseph W. O'Connor, Jr., also earned a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, summa cum laude, from Northeastern University; and
WHEREAS, In his career with the Chicago Department of Aviation, Joseph W. O'Connor, Jr., has demonstrated the highest degree of professionalism and participated in numerous committees, task forces, conferences, training seminars and workshops; and
WHEREAS, Joseph W. O'Connor, Jr., collaborates with local, state and federal agencies on numerous projects, initiatives and strategic planning to insure the continued safety and security of Chicago aviation; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixteenth day of October, 2013, do hereby commend Joseph W. O'Connor, Jr., for his tireless dedication to the traveling public, the airline industry and the people of the City of Chicago; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Joseph W. O'Connor, Jr.
