RESOLUTION CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF MOTHER EASTER MAE BOYKINS

WHEREAS, "Mother" Easter Mae Boykins, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away on November 11, 2022; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of Easter's passing by the Honorable Emma Mitts, Alderman of the 37th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Easter Mae Boykins was born May 2, 1956 in Star City, Arkansas to Emma Carr and

WHEREAS, Easter was a proud member of the Order Eastern Star (OES), a Masonic order devoted to religious, charitable, and educational purposes and whose mission is to provide for the welfare of the wives, daughters, mothers, widows, sisters, and other relatives of Master Masons; and

WHEREAS, Easter was a devoted family woman, from her children and grandchildren to her church family; she ensured that each felt her love in a special way; and

WHEREAS, Easter was preceded in death by her husband, Roosevelt Boykins; one daughter, Erica Miller; her mother, Emma Carr; two sisters, Vearesta Briggs and Fannie Pennington; and two best friends, Alice Smith and Jane Scott; and

WHEREAS, Easter leaves to cherish her memory one son, Freddie Ezekiel; one sister, Rosetta (Fredrick) Guy; one aunt, Mary Fitzpatrick; grandchildren Lachaunda (Germany) Pree, Emma Miller, J'Hardy Miller, Cordell Willis, Lasha Brown, and Patrick (Vasti) Brown; great grandchildren Cory'yonna Pree, Gernei Pree, Kaiden Garland, and Corleiah Pree; best friend, Melody Shavers; and a host of relatives and friends; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this fourteenth day of December, 2022, do hereby honor the life and legacy of Easter Mae Boykins; and
