RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, The Honorable John J. Mannion has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 78; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Oak Lawn, the Honorable John J. Mannion was a retired Cook County Circuit Court Judge and the loving husband of Maggie; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable John J. Mannion was the much-adored father of William, Nancy, Bruce, Daniel and John and the grandfather of eight to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, the Honorable John J. Mannion graduated from Leo High School and St. Mary's University in Winona, Minnosota; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable John J. Mannion joined the United States Air Force and served for fourteen years as a member of the Chicago Police Department where he earned a reputation as one of the most highly regarded homicide Detectives on the police force; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable John J. Mannion rose through the ranks to become a Sergeant and graduated from Chicago-Kent College of Law; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable John J. Mannion left the police department in 1974 to join the Cook County State's Attorneys Office where he demonstrated skill cross-examining witnesses and used his extensive knowledge of law enforcement to prosecute cases; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable John J. Mannion was appointed to the bench in the 1980s and ably served for twenty-three years as a Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County; and

WHEREAS, Following a long and highly distinguished career in public service, the Honorable John J. Mannion retired from the bench in 2006; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable John J. Mannion serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable John J. Mannion to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled h...
