RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Rose Pak has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 68; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Rose Pak was a widely admired civic leader in San Francisco's Chinatown community; and
WHEREAS, A longtime consultant to the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Rose Pak supported projects that benefited Chinatown residents; and
WHEREAS, Strong and fearless, Rose Pak raised campaign funds for candidates and helped to transform San Francisco's Asian-American population into a politically powerful constituency; and
WHEREAS, Born in Hunan, China, Rose Pak emigrated to the United States in 1967 and worked with the The Chronicle newspaper for which she covered Chinatown; and
WHEREAS, During the 1970s Rose Pak helped to save Chinatown's Chinese Hospital, a medical center serving Cantonese-speaking low-income residents, and more recently was instrumental in helping to raise $100 million to rebuild the facility; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Rose Pak serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Rose Pak to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Rose Pak was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Rose Pak imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of October, 2016, do hereby commemorate Rose Pak for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Rose Pak.
