NEAR NORTH UNITY PROGRAM - COMMUNITY HERO RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Near North Unity Program (NNUP) is an initiative of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation Chicago to support community building in Chicago's Near North neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, NNUP seeks to promote and strengthen community cohesion and to connect existing sub-communities into a resilient neighborhood by building upon local strengths through planning, organizing and human development; and
WHEREAS, NNUP depends upon the leadership and participation of community-based organizations and neighborhood residents, in particular local champions, or community heroes; and
WHEREAS, Community Heroes are ordinary people who go to extraordinary lengths to make life better for their families and their neighbors because of their deep and abiding personal commitment to their community and residents; and
WHEREAS, Community Heroes take on the arduous task of building their community and work valiantly to create opportunities for the preservation, growth and sustainability of their neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, Community Heroes are held in the highest regard by NNUP partner organizations and LISC Chicago; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this 12th day December 2012, do hereby congratulate the Community Heroes listed below and thank them for their service to the Near North community and our great city.
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution is presented to these Community Heroes, AI Carter Bey, Bernice Thompson and Sharon Wheeler, as a token of our appreciation and esteem.
