RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, The Honorable Malcolm Fraser has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 84; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Malcolm Fraser served as the 22nd Prime Minister of Australia and was the loving husband of Tamara; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Malcolm Fraser was the much-adored father of Mark, Angela, Hugh and Phoebe to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Malcolm Fraser served in his nation's highest elected office from 1975 to 1983; and

WHEREAS, During his esteemed tenure, the Honorable Malcolm Fraser championed legislation that returned land to the Aborigines in the Northern Territory and made Australia a multi-cultural society; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Malcolm Fraser was a staunch opponent of apartheid in South Africa and welcomed tens of thousands of Indo-Chinese to Australia following the Vietnam War; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Malcolm Fraser devoted his life after leaving politics to championing human rights issues; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Malcolm Fraser serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Malcolm Fraser was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Malcolm Fraser imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifteenth day of April, 2015, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Malcolm Fraser for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
