RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE TERRORIST ATTACKS OF
SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 AND A RELATED EXHIBIT AT THE FIELD MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY
WHEREAS, Our nation and the world will recognize the 10 anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, in the coming weeks and will remember the loss of thousands of lives that day, and will honor the heroism of rescue workers who saved many thousands more; and
WHEREAS, In the aftermath of September 11th, the nation stood united in respect and gratitude to the emergency and recovery workers who worked night and day at New York's World Trade Center site. The workers who brought us hope and risked their own lives to assist included our Armed Forces, firefighters, police officers, iron workers, heavy equipment operators, health care workers, clergy, engineers, and countless others; and
WHEREAS, The Field Museum of Chicago has worked with former New York Police Precinct Commander Paul McCormack and photojournalist Nicola McClean to create an exhibition titled Ground Zero 360°, weaving together their unique eyewitness accounts of these events; and
WHEREAS, The public visiting the Field Museum, between September 2, 2.011, and January 4, 2012, will be able to touch a piece of steel that once was once part of the structure of the World Trade Center, and see devotional crosses cut from such steel in remembrance of victims; and
WHEREAS, By listening to New York Police radio calls, and viewing police officers' and a firefighter's personal items, the public visiting the exhibition will have the opportunity to understand the humanity, professionalism and sacrifice of emergency workers who evacuated the World Trade Center and fought to save lives and protect their city; and
WHEREAS, By viewing large-scale photographs of the effects of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York, the public visiting the exhibition will understand the potential dangers our communities face, and realize how much we citizens of ...
