RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It is with a mixture of regret at the departure of a dear friend and colleague, and happiness for her inevitable future success, that we bid adieu to Mayoral Chief of Staff, Eileen Mitchell; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Emanuel named Eileen as his Chief of Staff on July 23, 2015, where she has since served the Mayor and the people of Chicago with great dedication and skill; and

WHEREAS, Eileen has persevered, and indeed thrived, as Chief of Staff for the Emanuel administration in a position with the traditionally well-deserved reputation as a relentless pressure cooker; and

WHEREAS, Before working for the City, Eileen served as Vice President of External Affairs for AT&T Illinois. Since 2003, she was responsible for leading the company's initiatives in public policy, community relations and charitable giving in Illinois. Prior to that, she served as Issues Director and Special Assistant to Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives, Michael Madigan; and

WHEREAS, As Chief of Staff, Eileen brought unerring good judgment, discipline and stamina to her work. Those who have had the good fortune to work with her admire and enjoy her buoyant good humor and sense of irony, her ability to cheerfully meet daunting challenges head-on, and her sensible, crisp decision-making, and are grateful for her inexhaustible supply of tasty M&Ms and pretzels; and
WHEREAS, Eileen's guiding hand has helped direct the City successfully through many difficult challenges, and Chicago - both as a government and as a city - are unquestionably better places today because of her; and

WHEREAS, Eileen Mitchell earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Loyola University, Chicago in 1990 and went on to earn a certificate from the Lawyer's Assistant Program at Roosevelt University. She and her husband, Jim, are the proud parents of three children: Jack, Bridget and Martin; and

WHEREAS, We wish Eileen all the best of success and happiness in her future endeavors...
