RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE 25IH ANNIVERSARY OF GOODCITY
WHEREAS, For 25 years, Goodcity, located on Chicago's West Side, has been providing emerging entrepreneurs and community leaders with the training and knowledge to implement innovative, creative and necessary programs in the city's underserved neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, Goodcity celebrated its 25th anniversary on April 28, 2011, at Northerly Island by presenting its Gala 2011, featuring awards to long-time benefactors Pastor John Buchanan and Case Hoogendoorn, and;
WHEREAS, Through Goodcity's stewardship, the next generation of green entrepreneurs will use environmental sustainability to support neighborhood businesses, and further reduce the dependency of residents and businesses within the City of Chicago on a fossil fuel based energy economy; and
WHEREAS, Through Goodcity's efforts, budding leaders and entrepreneurs with the knowledge and tools they need to be successful opened new businesses in Englewood, and other Chicago neighborhoods; such efforts also created and developed organizations to help Chicagoans fight diabetes, support residents losing loved ones to violence, and assist ex-offenders to recover and reform; and
WHEREAS, Goodcity identifies and supports local residents who seek to create or enhance neighborhood and faith-based programs to promote self-sufficiency, hope and a sense of purpose in the lives of individuals in under-resourced communities by specifically providing in-depth training, mentoring and milestone-based funding to support emerging leaders and their projects; and
WHEREAS, Goodcity continues to be a beacon of hope and an invaluable resource to Chicagoans looking to make a difference, providing unique and vital services to individuals and groups in some of Chicago's most distressed areas, and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert W. Fioretti, Alderman of the 2nd Ward, has apprised this august body of the significant achievement of the Goodcity organization in the aforesaid recitals; now...
