WHEREAS, Detective Timothy L. Dotson, Sr., a true example of a civil servant, will celebrate his retirement from the Chicago Police Department after twenty years of service on September 15, 2018; and

WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been notified of this special occasion by the Honorable Michelle Harris, Alderman ofthe 8th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Born on June 5, 1966, in Chicago, Illinois, Timothy L. Dotson, Sr. was the adored son of Leroy and Ida Grace Dotson. Timothy grew up in Chicago and attended Frank L. Gillespie Elementary School and Chicago Vocational High School; and

WHEREAS, Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After completing Marine Corps basic training, Timothy married his high school sweetheart, Thaddy Jenise Dotson. They were blessed with three children, Timothy Jr., Tiffany and Troy; and

WHEREAS, During his almost seven years in the Marine Corps he served as Field Artillery Cannon Crew Chief, Military Policeman and Cadre Trainer, where Timothy's desire to work within law enforcement developed. While still on active duty in the Marine Corps, Timothy attended the Ventura County Police and Sheriffs Academy; and

WHEREAS, After graduating as the outstanding Cadet of his class, Timothy was hired as a Reserve Police Officer in Port Hueneme, California. Soon after, Timothy returned home to Chicago and worked as a firearms instructor for the private security school PBS. After the closure of PBS, Dotson worked for the Chicago Transit Authority as a bus operator until the City of Gary, Indiana hired him as a Police Officer; and

WHEREAS, While in Gary, he attended the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy where he was named President of the Class by his peers and Squad Leader of Class 94-117 by the Academy staff.
