RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Jane O'Connor Kerr has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 101; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Jane O'Connor Kerr was the loving wife of the late Chicago television commentator Len O'Connor and the late Donald Kerr, an attorney and educator; and
WHEREAS, A woman of dignity, grace and charm, Jane O'Connor Kerr was the mother of Paul, John, William, Leonard and Meg, the grandmother of eight and the great-grandmother of six; and
WHEREAS, Jane O'Connor Kerr was widely recognized for her leadership in advancing the arts and culture in Chicago and throughout the State of Illinois; and
WHEREAS, Jane O'Connor Kerr served for 25 years under four governors on the Illinois Arts Council and was appointed to the Chicago Arts Council by former Mayor Jane M. Byrne; and
WHEREAS, Jane O'Connor Kerr was a major force behind the opening of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Jane O'Connor Kerr took a particular interest in dance and was the founding President of the Chicago City Ballet and a former President of the Ruth Page Civic Ballet youth performance training company; and
WHEREAS, In addition to supporting the arts, Jane O'Connor Kerr was an advocate for social justice through her work as the President of the Catholic Interracial Council of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Jane O'Connor Kerr also served on the DePaul University Women's Board; and
WHEREAS, The decades of legendary contributions made by Jane O'Connor Kerr are largely responsible for the growth and vitality of arts and education programs across Illinois; and
WHEREAS, Jane O'Connor Kerr will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Jane O'Connor Kerr imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
