RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Reverend Robert Coleman, the Pastor of Immaculate Conception Church on the Southwest Side of Chicago, will preside over the parish's Centennial celebrations during 2014; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this anniversary by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, For generations, families have found Immaculate Conception parish to be a place of comfort, inspiration and hope; and
WHEREAS, Inside this church, countless baptisms, weddings and funerals have taken place; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1914 when the Brighton Park neighborhood was still a prairie, Immaculate Conception Church initially served Lithuanian and eastern European families; and
WHEREAS, Over its long and rich history, the faithful of this highly active parish became largely comprised of Mexican immigrants and today has 2,500 registered families; and
WHEREAS, This Jubilee year provides the opportunity to not only reflect on the parish's rich history, but also acknowledge the contributions of its many priests, including its current Pastor, the Reverend Robert Coleman; and ;
WHEREAS, A native of the Southwest Side, the Reverend Robert Coleman was raised in an Irish family and served his country as a member of the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, While in the military, the Reverend Robert Coleman decided to pursue a religious vocation and was ordained in 1978 at St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his work at Immaculate Conception Parish, the Reverend Robert Coleman has served as Pastor of St. Philomena, ministered at St. Mary of Lake Parish and Good Shepherd Parish and spent fourteen years as a missionary in Mexico, where he honed his language skills in Spanish; and
WHEREAS, The dedication of the Reverend Robert Coleman and the contributions to the community of Immaculate Conception Parish serve as an example to all; now, therefore
