Resolution: Thorn Greene, Architect, AIA

WHEREAS, The members of the Chicago City Council wish to recognize the many accomplishments of Thorn Greene, Architect, AIA; and

WHEREAS, The City Council has been notified of his retirement by The Honorable Harry Osterman, Alderman of the 48th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Thorn Greene served the communities of Andersonville, Edgewater, and the larger Chicagoland area for over 41 years as the Principal Architect of Greene & Proppe Design; and

WHEREAS, Thorn Greene has been an architectural staple in the Chicagoland community since his establishment of the Architecture & Interior Design firm in Edgewater in 1988, and has helped to create the Andersonville and Edgewater neighborhoods that neighbors know and love; and

WHEREAS, Thorn Greene has helped restore and create numerous projects within the communities of Andersonville and Edgewater, namely focusing on historic design and restoration on over 1100 homes and businesses throughout the area, creating a new Lakefront for the city, developing Andersonville and Bryn Mawr Streetscaping, and Andersonville's Swedish Water Tower; and

WHEREAS, Thorn Greene has helped particularly with historical renovations, assisting in the creation of National Historical District designations for Andersonville, Bryn Mawr, and Lakewood Balmoral, serving as a founding member and current Officer of the Edgewater Historical Society, and creating Historic District identifiers in Andersonville and Bryn Mawr; and

WHEREAS, Thorn Greene has served his community in a variety of ways, offering pro bono work to assist on local initiatives, assisting the Edgewater and Andersonville Chambers of Commerce, serving as an Aldermanic resource for local development projects, and serving on Mayor Daley's Landscape & Streetscape Advisory Committee for 17 years; and

WHEREAS, Thorn Greene has received a plethora of awards for his architectural contributions, including but not limited to, the Driehaus Landmark ...
