ORDINANCE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO:
SECTION 1. Section 5-20-030 of the Municipal Code of Chicago is hereby amended by deleting the language struck through, and by inserting the language underscored, as follows:
5-20-030 Termination ban.
Any person engaged in the furnishing or supplying of gas for consumption in the city to any residential consumer shall be prohibited from terminating services or discontinuing the supply of gas to any residential consumer during the calendar months of November, December, January, February and March.
Any person engaged in the furnishing or supplying of gas for consumption in the city to any master-metered residential consumer shall be prohibited from terminating services or discontinuing the supply of gas to any master-metered residential building during the months of November, December, January, February and March.
Prior to terminating services or discontinuing the supply of gas to any residential property as the result of an account closure or transfer of ownership during the months of November- December, January. February and March, anv person engaged in the furnishing or supplying of gas for consumption in the citv shall provide the property owner with written notice no less than 5 business days prior to terminating services or discontinuing the supply of aas to such residential property. No person engaged in the furnishing or supplying of gas for consumption in the citv shall terminate services or discontinue the suppIv of oas to anv residential property as the result of an account closure or transfer of ownership during the months of November. December. January. February and March until 5 business davs after such notice has been delivered to the property owner.
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall take effect ten days after passage and publication.
