MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of Joan Lucas, nee Ehmann, on October 2, 2013, at the age of eighty-five; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of her passing by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Born on August 29, 1929, Joan, who leaves a legacy of faith, dignity and love, was the beloved wife of the late Edward "Luke"; loving mother of Rosemary, Michael, Patrice (Billy) and Daniel (Nancy); dearest grandmother of Lucas, Jacqueline, Ryan, Jenee, Michael (Nicole) and the late Douglas; dear sister of the late Marilyn (Wally) Turnwall; fond aunt of many nieces and nephews; friend of many; and
WHEREAS, A Chicago Public School teacher for thirty-eight years at Brentano Elementary School, Joan was an active and vital member of her community; and
WHEREAS, As a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, friend, Joan will be deeply missed, but the memory of her character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved her; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this fifteenth day of January 2014, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Joan Lucas and express to her family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Joan Lucas as a token of our honor, gratitude, and respect.
