RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, His Excellency, Dr. Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy, the Minister of Commerce and Industry for the Sultanate of Oman, led a high-level trade and investment delegation to the United States during the month of October; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The trade delegation consisted of more than forty business and government leaders who visited Houston, Chicago and New York; and
WHEREAS, The delegation also included Oman's Ambassador to the United States, Her Excellency Hunaina Al-Mughairy, and the Honorable Greta C. Holtz, the United States Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman;
WHEREAS, The goal of the mission was to promote business opportunities in the Sultanate of Oman and spur its reputation as a worldwide investment destination; and
WHEREAS, Leaders of the delegation additionally emphasized the Sultanate of Oman's key geostrategic location and incentives; and
WHEREAS, The Sultanate of Oman and the United States have enjoyed a long and prosperous history that extends back to the 1833 Treaty of Amity and Commerce, America's first treaty of its kind in the Arab world; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of November, 2013, do hereby recognize the important economic ties and the longstanding friendship between the United States and the Sultanate of Oman; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to His Excellency, Dr. Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy.
