RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Marcellus Jae Michael Lane has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 33; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Marcellus is survived by his parents JW Lane and Honorable Lona Mallory Lane, brother, DeAndre Lamar (Rubye) Lane, sister Kimberley Sherrice Lane, and many more family and friends; and

WHEREAS, He was raised Catholic, baptized and confirmed at St. Thomas More Church where he served as an alter boy and chose St. Michael the Archangel as his Patron Saint; and

WHEREAS, Marcellus attended and graduated from Little Flower Pre School, St. Thomas More Grammar School, St. Rita of Cascia High School, and DePaul University; and

WHEREAS, Marcellus worked for the City of Chicago in two Aldermanic Service Offices, Alderman Michele Harris, 8th Ward and his mother, former Alderman Lona Lane, 18th Ward for more than three years; and

WHEREAS, He began his Naval career on May 9, 2016 and was subsequently assigned to the USS Harry S. Truman in Norfolk, Virginia; and

WHEREAS, His naval assignments included, Suda Bay, Greece, Monaco, France, London, England, Misawa, Japan, and Bahrain; and

WHEREAS, Marcellus returned home in 2020 from Bahrain and was stationed in Jacksonville, Florida, until his passing on Thursday, June 17, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Marcellus enjoyed reading, was an avid basketball and chess player, and played professional poker winning many trophies; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Marcellus Jae Michael Lane imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members ofthe Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-first day of July, 2021, do hereby commemorate Marcellus Jae Michael Lane for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Marcellus...
