RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Henry "Hank" Hartsfield, Jr., has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 80; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, Henry "Hank" Hartsfield, Jr., was a retired NASA astronaut and the loving husband of Frances; and
 
WHEREAS, Henry "Hank" Hartsfield, Jr., was the much-adored father of Judy and the late Keely; and
 
WHEREAS, A Colonel in the United States Air Force, Henry "Hank" Hartsfield, Jr., joined NASA in 1969 and waited thirteen years before embarking into space; and
 
WHEREAS, Henry "Hank" Hartsfield, Jr., flew three space shuttle missions aboard Columbia, Discovery and Challenger and logged more than 480 hours in space; and
 
WHEREAS, Known for his unflappable nature, Henry "Hank" Hartsfield, Jr., also taught test pilots at Edwards Air Force Base; and
 
WHEREAS, Henry "Hank" Hartsfield, Jr., served as a NASA administrator from 1985 to 1998 and worked for the Raytheon Company until his retirement in 2005; and
 
WHEREAS, In recognition of his intrepid service to his country, Henry "Hank" Hartsfield, Jr., was inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame in 2006; and
 
WHEREAS, The bravery, sacrifice and dedication of Henry "Hank" Hartsfield, Jr., serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, Henry "Hank" Hartsfield, Jr., will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Henry "Hank" Hartsfield, Jr., imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirtieth day of July, 2014, do hereby commemorate Henry "Hank" Hartsfield, Jr., for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Henry "Hank" Hartsfield, Jr.
