A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING ST. BERNARD HOSPITAL AND HEALTH CARE CENTER'S EMERGENCY MEDICINE EXCELLENCE AWARD FOR 2011

WHEREAS, St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center located in Chicago's 20'" Ward is a vital medical resource and conscientious community institution providing lifesaving expertise to citizens in need within and beyond the Englewood area; and
WHEREAS, St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center was selected by HealthGrades, the nation's leading independent source of hospital quality ratings, for their Emergency Medicine Excellence Award for 2011; and
WHEREAS, the Emergency Medicine Excellence Award for 2011 makes St. Bernard one of the top five percent of hospitals in the nation for emergency medicine care; and
WHEREAS, St. Bernard is one of only five hospitals in Chicago ever to receive the Emergency Medicine Excellence Award; and
WHEREAS, the Emergency Medicine Excellence Award to St. Bernard is especially significant due to the fact that its Emergency Room is an exceptionally busy one, with more than 40,000 visits per year;
BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and members ofthe Chicago City Council, extend congratulations to St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center on this outstanding recognition of its excellence in emergency medical care and applaud its commitment to high quality health care to South Side residents; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Sister Elizabeth Van Straten, RHSJ, the President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center.
