RESOLUTION
i
WHEREAS, The Chicago Metropolitan area has the largest and most established Polish community in the world outside of Poland; and,
WHEREAS, Chicago's history and cultural wealth have been shaped and enriched by Polish-Americans and their commitment to helping make our city a better place to live, work, and raise families; and, „
WHEREAS, The Alliance of Polish Clubs in the United States and the Polish-American community continue their tradition in celebrating the 228th anniversary of Polish Constitution Day; and,
WHEREAS, This year's celebration of the Polish Constitution of 1791 will be held oh Saturday, May 4th, 2019, along Columbus Drive , from Balboa Drive to Monroe Street; and,
WHEREAS, This 128th anniversary of the Chicago parade is in honor of the first democratic constitution in Europe, and the world's second, following the 1788 ratification of the United States Constitution; and,
WHEREAS, Every year, the parade gathers thousands of people devoted to Polonia and Poland, and thousands more are expected to be drawn to the television coverage of the parade provided by Polish TV stations; and,
WHEREAS, This year, the Polish Constitution Day Committee honors Jozef Cikowski as the 2019 Grand Marshall and Zaneta Marcinik as the Queen of the Polish Constitution Day Parade along with her court, Matylda Sojko, Natalia Salamon; and,
WHEREAS, This year's parade motto is "Polonia United - Polonia Strong" and now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this twentieth day of May 2019 A.D., do hereby call public attention to the 128th anniversary of Chicago's Polish Constitution Day Parade; and,
