Title: Tribute to late Lexie Kamerman

RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Lexie Kamerman has lost her life as a civilian victim of terrorism in Afghanistan; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, Lexie Kamerman was one of twenty-one people killed in a Taliban suicide bombing in Kabul; and
 
WHEREAS, Lexie Kamerman worked at the American University of Afghanistan where she helped young women receive an education and take their rightful place in Afghan society; and
 
WHEREAS, Raised in Chicago, Lexie Kamerman graduated from the Latin School in Lincoln Park and Knox College in downstate Galesburg before pursuing a master's degree in higher education from the University of Arizona; and
 
WHEREAS, Throughout her young life, Lexie Kamerman was actively involved in community service and volunteered at a soup kitchen and an animal shelter; and
 
WHEREAS, Lexie Kamerman also traveled to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina to help with post hurricane relief efforts; and
 
WHEREAS, Prior to leaving for Afghanistan for a three-year commitment, Lexie Kamerman was Director of Membership Services for the Collegiate Water Polo Association in Bridgeport, Pennsylvania and worked at Elon University in Elon, North Carolina, where she was Assistant Director of Residence Life; and
 
WHEREAS, Lexie Kamerman will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Lexie Kamerman imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of February, 2014, do hereby commemorate Lexie Kamerman for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lexie Kamerman.'
