RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Dr. Madeleine Johnson has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 92; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Madeleine Johnson was a widely admired Chicago educator and the loving wife for 69 years of the late Ellis D. Johnson, M.D.; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Madeleine Johnson was the much-adored mother of Nancy C. Mackey, Donna L. Johnson, M.D., and the Honorable Moira Lyon, the grandmother of eight and the great-grandmother of fourteen; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Madeleine Johnson enjoyed a long and highly successful career with the Chicago Public Schools and retired as the Director of the Bureau of Learning Disabilities; and
WHEREAS, For much of her long and distinguished tenure, Dr. Madeleine Johnson worked with both emotional and physical needs children; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Madeleine Johnson was also a former instructor at Roosevelt University; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Madeleine Johnson belonged to numerous professional and social organizations and was named a recipient in 1981 of the Ora Higgins Youth Foundation's Distinguished Leadership Award; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dr. Madeleine Johnson serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, A woman of dignity, grace and charm, Dr. Madeleine Johnson will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Dr. Madeleine Johnson imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirtieth day of April, 2014, do hereby commemorate Dr. Madeleine Johnson for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Madeleine Johnson.
