RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, On Saturday, September 12, 2015, the United German-American Societies of Greater Chicago presented the "Von Steuben German Day Parade"; and

WHEREAS, They celebrate this event for Baron Friedrich Von Steuben, who came to this country as a volunteer, offering his services to General George Washington during the American Revolution; and

WHEREAS, This event has hundreds of participants who march, dance, play music or ride several beautiful floats on Lincoln Avenue and Western Avenue in Chicago's 47th Ward; and

WHEREAS, This was a chance for the city's German-American community to celebrate its heritage and for the city to come together to share our common bonds; and

WHEREAS, the United German-American Societies of Greater Chicago will hold a Commemoration Ceremony at St. Benedict Church on October 6, 2015; now therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members ofthe City of Chicago City Council, gathered together this 24th Day of September 2015, do hereby thank the United German-American Societies of Greater Chicago for its community service and for holding the "Von Steuben German Day Parade," in honor of General Von Steuben's inspiration, confidence and competence; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies of the resolution be prepared and presented to United German-American Societies of Greater Chicago.
